bird headgear
india

A dynamic battery powered headgear, bird was designed and developed for the Delhi and Paris Fashion week in 2009. Commissioned by fashion designer, Manish Arora, the project was developed through an intuitive and rigorous process of research and tinkering. The armature of the bird consists of lightweight aluminium wheels, which successively reduce in width to 'fit and collapse' into each other. Existing motors from discarded toys were re-engineered and programmed to carry the customized woven fabric wings, which flap as the model walks on stage to synchronized music. The weight of the wings, the dimension and shape of the overall headgear and the material composition were critical constraints through the project and influenced the overall development.
